The brief

The Crowned was an exciting NFT project centered around a nostalgic, fictitious skull character from my childhood. The aim was to create a unique and eye-catching NFT series that paid homage to the quirky, endearing qualities of this character, while incorporating modern design elements. I was approached by a colleague that needed a cartoonish adult avatar with a stylistic illustrative edge. With a vision to eventually develop this concept into an engaging and interactive game, I focused on crafting visually compelling and versatile designs that could seamlessly transition into a dynamic gaming environment, fostering a connection between the NFT collectors and the upcoming gaming experience.

The Solution

In order to address the project's requirements and strike the perfect balance between edginess and approachability, I carefully developed a bold, eye-catching cartoon of the skull character. By employing a vibrant color palette, dynamic linework, and a touch of playfulness, I was able to infuse the design with the desired edge without making it overly intense. Through iterative collaboration with the client, I refined the visual elements to ensure that the final design not only met their expectations but also resonated with the target audience. The end result was a captivating and memorable depiction of the skull character that beautifully encapsulated the essence of the project, while maintaining a friendly and approachable demeanor.
